Fashion Week- Day 5

Vera Wang is known for her simple elegance with neutral fabrics and understated colors. Also her wedding dresses, of course. Her fall line follows her giudelines with sheer fabrics that look as if they were draped onto the models. This line had a more high fashion feel then her more wearable everyday line for Khols. Wang used the technique that others have been using this season as well, such as layering and putting together different textures and prints. My favorite pieces from the line were a blue cerulean gown with loose chiffon draped on the model. The color is striking against her skin tone and the color and fabric make me think of the serenity yet power of the ocean. Another was a camel colored gown that had loose chiffon as well. I loved the modesty and beauty of these understated yet gorgeous gowns and how they moved on the runway. The hair and makeup followed the feeling of effortless beauty throughout the show with natrual makeup and lightly teased hair.

Badgley Mischka brought high power glamour to their show with metallic fabrics, dark makeup and floor length couture. I got a kind of gothic ice queen from this show and I loved the theatricality aspect of the show. My favorite look was a dark, floor length, straright sihloette gown in shimmering fabric. I thought it was very interesting how the sleeves are sheer compared to the heavy fabric and just looked as if they just hung on the shoulders. Mark Badgley and James Mischka always bring in heavy glamour and this was no excepetion.  I felt a sort of good intimidation from this and these guys are not ones to play it safe when it comes to fashion. The backdrop was of a snow bank which went with the ice queen theme very well and the palette of the show is perfect for the fall season.

I had mixed feelings about Dennis Basco's show because of his heavy use of real fur, but other than that, I like how he put so much detail into his dresses such as a flashy flapper inspired thigh length dress that was a bright rouge color and intricate gold beading. I tried to look past the fur, but I was kind of overwhelming and stole away from the pieces underneath. The clothing underneath merely seemed as a shell to the fur coats. Maybe that was his approach, but I thought that they were unessessary.

My favorite show of the day has to go to Vera Wang for her simplicity yet remarkable way to show modesty for womens style, yet create beautiful flowing chiffons.
